Rendille villagers in northern Kenya scoop the dregs from a water tank filled only the night before by a government truck but already drained below the level of its spigot.
They must wait a week for the next delivery.

This Month in Photo of the Day: Nature and Environment
This shot was taken at Varanasi, India. A boat man still sleeping in the morning and the boats created a splendid formation. I was shocked that pollution from tourists throwing garbage and plastic waste into the River Ganges is slowly killing the environment.

Like drifting clouds, hilltops mirrored in a mirage appear to float behind a Land-Rover. The illusion is created by heat waves shimmering in 120-degree (49-degree-Celsius) temperatures of the Dasht-i-Margo—Afghanistan's so-called "Desert of Death."
